When performance is important, use performance-based programs
With the advent of virtualized systems in "The Cloud," performance-based testing of computer systems and applications is easier than ever before. Gone is the expensive infrastructure (and its capital expenditures) required even a few years ago. Using "snapshotted" systems with different data sets, it is remarkably easy to create similar yet unique test scenarios.
Cloud-based applications
One of the under-appreciated aspects of performance-based testing is the possibility of increased test security. For example, when procedures are tested, results can be measured internally or externally. In either case, though, due to the ease with which similar-but-not-identical tests (forms) can be built there is little room for cheating.
Test Security
The (relatively) recent appearance of mobile systems and the YouTube DIY ethos has greatly expanded the availability of just-in-time information. Training programs no longer need to teach everything – they can provide a grounding in basic concepts and practice, and leave much of the less-critical information to tutorials and other performance support tools.
